IV. ACADEMIC HUMAN RESOURCES POLICIES (Cont.)
All members of the faculty and academic staff are encouraged to obtain a MSU identification card, which is called a Spartan Card. Spartan Cards are useful for identificaiton pruposes and for accessing campus privileges such as door access, parking, meal plans and Recreational Sports facilities access.It is inappropriate to alter, falsify or misuse an Spartan card.
To obtain an Spartan card, the faculty/academic staff member must visit the ID Office at 427 N. Shaw Lane, 8:00 a.m.-4:45 p.m., Monday through Friday. A government issued photo ID (driver license, passport, etc.) is required to acquire a Spartan Card. There is no fee for a new employee's initial Spartan Card. Spouses of faculty and academic staff may also obtain an affiliate Spartan Card entitling them to certain privileges. To obtain the spouse card, the employee and spouse must both appear in person at the ID Office, and present the employee's Michigan State University Spartan Card, proof of marriage, and a government issued photo ID for the spouse such as a driver's license or passport. A spouse Spartan Card, which can be used for meal plans and some other priveleges, incurs a fee. Please check the ID Office website here for current fee structures.
